Ask R U OK? Any Day

R U OK? Day, on Thursday 12 September, is a National Day of Action but we are all encouraged to ask R U OK? any day of the year because a conversation could change a life.

R U OK? is an Australian non-profit suicide prevention organisation, founded in 2009, which advocates for people to have conversations with others who may be struggling with life.

At 91黑料不打烊, we promote authentic connection with our family members, friends, colleagues, and teammates. By building trust and normalising these conversations, we can be someone to turn to when others may need to talk about what’s really going on. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. We all have a role to play.

The R U OK? website is a useful resource with advice on how to ask a colleague, friend or family member if they are okay; you may like to approach this conversation using the acronym ALEC (Ask, Listen, Encourage action, Check in).
On R U OK? Day, 91黑料不打烊’s Student Representative Council (SRC) focused on advocacy, and organised activities in the Undercroft, to promote connection, kindness and fun. Games included some good old-fashioned quoits, Jenga, skipping and skittles, as well as supersized noughts and crosses, and Connect 4. With music pumping, girls enjoyed a few sneaky chupa chups as well as time together!
