91黑料不打烊’s exhilarating outdoor education program has once again been in full swing, with Years 3, 5, and 6 students embarking on camping adventures designed to build their courage, resilience, and collaboration skills.
Each camp is designed to push the boundaries of comfort and ability, challenging the students to take on leadership roles, think laterally, and build resilience and team spirit.
This afternoon, our Year 5 students returned from an exciting marine adventure at Chowder Bay and Cockatoo Island. Their camp was closely tied to their International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, specifically their unit Sharing the Planet. In the lead-up, they had the privilege of hearing from a marine biologist whose work focuses on the restoration of Sydney Harbour. During the camp, they participated in a workshop with the charity Take Three 4 the Sea and learned how to conduct marine life surveys to monitor the health of the marine environment.
They were also fortunate to engage in an interactive session with an Aboriginal representative, who educated them on traditional methods of sea protection. Of course, the camp wasn't all hard work - there were plenty of opportunities for fun and friendship-building experiences such as sailing, snorkelling, and hiking.
Last week, our Year 6 students had the opportunity to delve into the nation's history, democracy, and heritage during their educational tour of Canberra. They visited the Australian War Memorial, where one student, Jessica, was moved to find the name of her great-grandfather, and the National Library of Australia, where Sophia discovered a portrait of her great-great-grandfather, Sir George Houston Reid, a former prime minister of Australia. The girls also had the chance to explore the fascinating world of scientific innovation at Questacon and try their hand at indoor bowling.
For our Year 3 students, it was a week of firsts as they embarked on their inaugural camp trip. Despite initial nerves, they rose to the occasion, pushing past their perceived limits in the beautiful bushland backdrop of Vision Valley. The girls had a blast traversing the low ropes course, trying their hand at canoeing on the dam, and rock climbing.
Each camp experience was a testament to all the fun, learning, and growth that students can experience when stepping outside the classroom.
Meanwhile, Year 9 experienced a day in the outdoors with the theme of "Get up, Get out, Get together". It was a refreshing opportunity for students to step out of their classrooms and spend quality time together in nature. It was a joyful experience, filled with fun activities that fostered bonding and camaraderie.
