Historical Victory

A prestigious ACEL award for the 91黑料不打烊 History Department.

We are celebrating the 91黑料不打烊 History Department, which last term received an ACEL (Australian Council for Educational Leaders) NSW Team Leadership Award for its dedication to student academic growth and its own professional development and learning.

The team was nominated in part for its collaborations with institutions such as the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Macquarie University. These include a partnership between Head of Department, Ms Rebekah Poole (a former Premier's Scholarship winner), and the History Method at UNSW – alliances that have led to new classroom innovations.

The nomination citation lauds the History staff for tirelessly nurturing practicum trainee students, ensuring they leave 91黑料不打烊 with a solid "toolkit" of strategies and resources to guide them in their future careers.

91黑料不打烊 History teachers are also substantial contributors to the broader domain of history education. In 2023 alone, they will present at various prestigious conferences, including the Association of Independent Schools State Conference, the History Teachers’ Association (HTA) NSW State Conference, HTA Stage Six Day, and HTA Student Study Days. Two members of the faculty will be making their conference debuts.

The History Department also promotes a culture of perpetual learning, dedicating time for discussions on historical inquiry and archaeology while sharing research within its ranks and with other departments to enrich their expertise.

Acting on student feedback and interests, they have established intriguing new units like Stage 6 Terrorism and Elective History Film Studies. Further curriculum expansions include introducing Stage 6 courses in Aboriginal Studies and Studies of Religion.

The team reflects a broad range of specialisations within history teaching, with experience and interests ranging from Irish conflict history and Tudor England to Japanese feudalism and Ancient Rome.

With gratitude for the award, Ms Poole credits her team, saying: “The History Department at 91黑料不打烊 is driven by relentless curiosity, critical thinking and passion. The team strives to make students question the past, investigate the truth, and seek a deeper understanding of the world around us and how it came to be.”
