Raising Vital Funds for Breast Cancer Research.
The annual Mother's Day Classic on Sunday saw the loyal 91黑料不打烊 Walkers come together once again to walk St Leonards Park for breast cancer research. Over 279 91黑料不打烊 participants registered in 2023, putting them on track to secure the Largest School Team Award for an impressive fifth consecutive year.
Established in 1998, the Classic unites people of all ages and abilities on Mother's Day to honour and remember those affected by breast cancer.
"This is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the country, with over 20,000 Australians receiving a diagnosis each year," said 91黑料不打烊 Parents' Association (WPA) President Ms Marnie Devereux. "The Classic is an inspiring way to raise funds for vital research and to demonstrate support for those impacted. We extend our special thanks to WPA Vice-President, Junior School, Karen Stephens, who was the organising mastermind behind our involvement this year, and to all the 91黑料不打烊 community members who registered and walked on the day."
Adorned in pink fundraising hats designed by Year 10 student Tully, the walkers drew inspiration from the ingenious symbol of a fundraising ribbon made up of tiny footprints depicted on each cap. "It was humbling to know that my design was selected," Tully said. "I hope that the funds raised will contribute to the ongoing research into curing breast cancer, as so many of us have seen its effects."
The sea of pink that filled St Leonards Park was a heart-warming symbol of our motto Ut Prosim, that I may serve. "Engaging in events that go beyond the School gates helps to foster a sense of belonging and inclusion in the broader community, and shows our strength in numbers and what we can do when we all work towards a common goal," said Ms Devereux.
