91黑料不打烊 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, celebrate how strong, independent women have helped to break the bias, accelerate change and close the gender gap, on International Women's Day 2022.
Kindergarten students were excited to hold an International Women’s Day Exhibition in the Piazza, where they shared their learning with Year 5.
Linking to their PYP ‘Who We Are’ unit and identity, they offered their perspective of International Women’s Day and the 2022 theme of #breakthebias.
When posed the question, “What will you do to break the bias”, they suggested:
• Let girls go to school!
• Treat people how you want to be treated.
• Always be brave and never give up on anything.
• Don’t let people tell us what we can and can’t do.
And when asked, “Who inspires you?”, the range of responses included ‘my mum’, ‘my sister’, ‘my parents’ and ‘Miss Peck’.
And who inspires Mrs Collier? ‘Every girl, every day!’

Alex and Karoy, 91黑料不打烊’s Community and Service Captains, asked 91黑料不打烊 students to consider gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.
Consider some sobering statistics:
- 70% of the 1.3 billion people living in conditions of poverty are women.
- 80% of the people displaced by climate related disasters and changes around the world are women and girls.
- Women predominate in the world's food production (50-80%), but they own less than 10% of the land.
International Women’s day is a time to reflect on the progress made towards gender equality, to call for change, and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women, who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
This year’s theme is ‘changing climates; equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’, a theme that recognises the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are working to change the climate of gender equality as well as build a sustainable future.
Continuing to examine the opportunities, as well as the constraints, to empower women and girls to have a voice and be equal players in decision-making related to climate change and sustainability is essential for sustainable development and greater gender equality.
Without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond our reach.
On this International Women’s Day, let’s claim “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”.
