Anzac Day 2022
91黑料不打烊 marked Anzac Day with a special and poignant Assembly in the Independent Theatre, followed by the laying of wreaths at the Cenotaph in St Leonards Park.
91黑料不打烊’s cadet Catafalque party commenced proceedings and provided a guard on stage throughout the moving readings of The Soldier’s Prayer and In Flanders Fields, by Year 6 students.
Dr Sam Hay, Afghanistan veteran and 91黑料不打烊 parent, reflected on Anzac Day and what it means for him and other veterans. He wears his medals proudly over his heart, and he wears the medals of his grandfather also. He spoke of the much-used term, ‘the ultimate sacrifice’ and suggested that Anzac Day is a day to give thanks for every single sacrifice made.
Dr Hay urged every girl to consider their fears, whatever they are, and be strong every day…just like our servicemen and women. Anzac Day is one where we remember the fallen and feel proud of every single one who is prepared to stand up and give so much.
Dr Hay assists veterans in his GP practice, and listens to those who still feel fear every day; “A part of every soldier dies when they go to war, regardless of what happens to them.” He encouraged our students to consider that these veterans walk among us and carry memories that never fade; they gave up their today so we can have our tomorrow.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
